Something I started doing about 10 years ago was creating what I call Neo-Mandala Art. While my images are not exactly spiritual in nature they are inspired by the long history Mandala art. My Neo-Mandalas are far from minimal in their design. However, while I make them they quiet my thoughts. So in some ways there is a bit of a spiritual element in my whimsical discoid images. Over the last 10 years I have created 1000's of individual elements that were used in creating my digital works. I save them in a very large library of shapes. It is like a toy box filled with things to play with. I sort through all these items and begin to put them together to create the base shapes I then kaleidoscope. Each Neo-Mandala has hundreds of elements worked together on dozens of levels in photoshop. This may not be high art but it is really fun to make. I have always embraced whimsy in my work and I hope people enjoy my whimsical neo-Mandalas.
I explore a place where surrealism, psychedelia, and dreams meet. It is not always easy to find. However, once you get there it is hard to leave. Some people might get frighten when they are there. Dream explorers love this magical place where imagination reveals itself. Don't be afraid of what you might find on your journey there. It might just feel like home.
I have always been interested in vintage images of all sorts. I would spend hours looking through the old faded and yellowed photographs of my grandmother's photo box and old magazines. For a few years now have been going on journeys to all corners of the universe and visiting such amazing places. It seem some of my recent work has been combining these things. I would not exactly call the work vintage but they evoke some of those feelings in me. I have been on real life journeys all over the globe. I have traveled to the corners of the universe with the help of my vivid imagination and dreaming. I have traveled back into time through the images captured by my great grandfather's camera. My recent works I can best describe as coming from a blending of those journeys. I hope you enjoy my work.
Well just another rainy day, it is cold, wet, and the colors outside are drab. I think I need to go on a picnic of the imagination. The meadow of psychedelic dreams awaits. I will need some sandwiches!
Take a walk with me into that time just before awakening but still in a dream. This is the time that dreams become reality and reality is questioned. I know it will be a good day when the forecast is for plenty of surrealism. You never know what amazing sights you will encounter. Lets take a walk, a dive, or a flight on this surreal day. Surreal : marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream; also : unbelievable, fantastic
